A Mediterranean Diet is very popular in the Southern Mediterranean region such as Spain, Greece, Italy, Portugal and other Mediterranean country.

The Diet Menu - Healthy Eating
  • Lots of vegetables and fruit
  • Salads dressed with olive oil
  • Small amount of fish and poultry
  • Bread
  • Pasta
  • Grains.
  • Rarely red meat
  • Low to moderate wine
Portion size should be watched carefully if you are aiming for weight loss, particularly with higher calorie foods such as oils. Many people assumed that oil is the most thing to avoid for loosing weight. But, don’t get wrong with olive oil. Good quality Olive oil is a good source of mono-unsaturated fat. The peoples of the Southern Mediterranean area have a lower incidence of heart disease than in the West. This could be attributed to the lower levels of saturated fat in their diet.
Wine (typically red wine) is consumed as part of a Mediterranean diet. A glass a day with a meal is normal.
